A filling pot of goodness

This is definitely my personal way of cooking this famous Indian dish and nothing authentic or traditional. Just my interpretation.

We regularly make a large pot of it.

Because its so delicious and even better once heated up again.

And its super versatile, more on that later in this blog.

Ever since we made this the first time it has been a hit with every member of my family. Approaching the winter times this cosy comforting and nursing food will be back on the table more frequently.

An absolute affordable and crowd pleasing dish.

It uses simple ingredients and you can of course make it your own by switching th lentils , like only red lentils is great too. I have added chickpeas once to bulk up the dish as there weren't enough leftovers to serve my hungry family as well.

We love Indian spiced foods with the rich flavours and this one dense use special items you can find all of the ingredients in any supermarket .

I recommend to use a lots of onions anyway and take your time in melting them down with some sort of fat ( we use Sunflower seed oil , ecologically grown of course) and add your spices for a couple of minutes with the fat. it make this all simply Devine.

every time you cook with lentils I reccoemd adding some sort of acid at the end of the cooking time. A Splash of vinegar or lemon juice if you have.

right before serving, it simply makes the dish come together.

if you have use fresh kurkuma and ginger but powdered works as well, so use what you have and you will be just fine.

it stores well over 5 days in a sealable container in the fridge. freezes perfectly and has more than one way to be served as a delicious dinner or lunch.

As always I am sneeking in some vegetables not only to add to the nutritious value of the Dish but as well as to bulk it up with goodness form mother Nature.

Grated carrots and zucchini are my favourite to add as they have little own taste and are always affordable or come in large quantities from my garden in summer.

We also try to use up every last bit of our fresh produce before bringing new ones home. So naturally there will be some vegetables that , traditionally you would not be in a Daal. Like swiss chard , brussle sprouts or curly kale. Believe me it still taste great. Of course you do you and add what ever you have or your family likes into your Daal.

You can also serve it with some mash potatoes instead of the classic rice version. Here we even added some pre cooked potatoes to bulk up our leftover and wrapped them with puff pastry. My version of Curry pies. Serve with a salad and some yoghurt with mango chutney, delsishious.

Did YOU KNOW...that combining legumes with grains gives your family a complete chain of protein?

in case you were worried that on a plant based Lifestyle you wouldn't get enough proteins. Its THE MOST ASKED QUESTION I get when people realise we are vegan.

Were you get your Protein from, we eat it directly like the animals, we get it from plants ands its delicious.
